Through this hike, I’ve learned I really sort of need carbs on hike days. Bah.
I hit a wall at 3 miles partway between Starr King & Waumbek summit; pushing through it only to have it kick me in the teeth again upon returning to Starr King. I sat down by the abandoned fireplace at the summit and choked down a Larabar and after about 15 minutes had enough “oomf” to get down the mountain at an average of right around 2.5mph on the day.
Lesson learned. Calories burned. No harm, no foul.
